The Essential Summer Accessory: Sunglasses

The official start of summer is merely eleven days away. We can already see the days getting longer, sunnier, and warmer. We’re going on vacations to the beach, lake, and mountains. We’re spending more time at concerts, festivals, poolside parties, or maybe just on our own porch. All of this outdoor activity is why the essential summer accessory is sunglasses. Sunglasses are a fun way to complete an outfit, and they can certainly make us feel more comfortable on a day when the sun is beating down and bright. However, sunglasses are more than a fashion accessory. They’re actually essential to our eye health as well. Just like applying sunscreen or at least SPF face moisturizer and lip balm are (or should be!) part of your summer beauty routine, so should putting on a pair of sunglasses before you leave the house. Sunglasses are the season’s ultimate fashion meets function accessory!

The first priority when choosing a pair of sunglasses is making sure they block 99% of UVA and UVB rays. This means you need to ditch the $10 sunglasses from Target or Forever 21. However, designer sunglasses can be expensive, like $100+ to $200+ expensive. For those of you out there who seem to have developed a bad habit of sitting on, breaking, or losing your sunglasses, this sounds like a scary investment. However, you can find quality, UV ray blocking sunglasses for a more reasonable price if you shop around and find a good deal. Well, today I’ve done a little leg work for you whether you’re looking to invest in a more pricey pair of sunglasses or looking for a deal on a designer pair.

Today marks the launch of the highly anticipated eyewear collaboration between American fashion model Karlie Kloss and the eyewear powerhouse Warby Parker. The 70’s inspired collection co-designed by Kloss includes three limited edition styles that come in at $145 each. With these particular designer glasses, you can feel a bit better about your investment. Warby Parker has a buy a pair, give a pair policy. For every pair of glasses they sell, they distribute a pair to someone in need. Plus, with this particular collaborative collection, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Edible Schoolyard NYC, a nonprofit organization who partners with public schools to give children the knowledge and tools to make healthy choices and change the way they eat for life.
